1920 ~ 2019
Peacefully in her sleep, at Pinawa hospital, Edna passed away on April 20, 2019, at 99 years of age.
Edna was born near Morden, Manitoba on April 14th, 1920 and was married to Ronald in 1939. They lived in Rosebank until they moved to Winnipeg in 1955. Dad passed in 1996 and after some years, mom moved to Lac du Bonnet to be close to family.
Mom is lovingly remembered by children Grant (Linda), Bonnie (Richard), grandchildren Ron (Christine), Erin (Reza), Caryn (Kevin), Alan (Ashley) and great granddaughters Nora Marie, Katie and Sara. Left to remember her are brother Edward and sister in-law Marianne Schott of Crystal City, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also, her very dear friend, Teresa (Teri) Usackis.
Mom was very proud of her education and certificates in home care and personal care. She was passionate about sewing and quilting – making hundreds of quilts in her lifetime. The center of her life were her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, pets and her home.
Her life was filled with many good friends, young and old, and old and new. She loved them all. Her mottoes were “never give up” and “compromise”.
As per Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will follow later. Flowers gratefully declined.
Thank you to Mom’s special Lac du Bonnet friends Tracey, Cathy, Susan and Shelly.
Words cannot express our thanks to all of Mom’s homecare workers over the last 12 years – too numerous to mention. To the amazing staff at Pinawa hospital, so gentle, kind, comforting and caring. And of course, Dr. M. Bruneau for all his care. His home visits were greatly appreciated.
This quilt will be beautiful, comforting to touch
Freely given to another whom I love very much
I love quilting in every part
From beginning to end, it comes from my heart.

My sincerest sympathy to all of Edna’s family. We have truly lost one of the finest. I enjoyed my visits with Edna and never grew tired of the wonderful stories she would tell. Even tho her sight and hearing were compromised, her mind was always sharp and she kept up with what was going on in the world around her. She truly was a gem. May she rest easy now, and the memories you created as family comfort you.
