1940 ~ 2014
Surrounded by his loved ones, Earl Swain passed away peacefully at Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the age of 74.
Earl was born at St. Boniface Hospital on July 20, 1940. He was predeceased by his parents, Ella and Andrew Swain and brother James.
He is survived by his sons, Ian and Ryan, and daughter-in-law Allison (whom he called “daughter”). He was so proud of his grandson, Anderson (“Andy”), who gave him much happiness and joy. He also leaves his brothers: Larry (Carole) and Clare (Betty), and cousin Bob (Linda), along with many nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered for his dry sense of humour, his passion for sports, his love of reading (especially Zane Grey westerns), and his enjoyment of word puzzles and sudoku. He was happiest in a boat with a fishing rod in his hands, the annual fishing trip to Lake of the Prairies with his sons and brothers being a highlight of his year.
Earl’s entire career was spent with the Royal Bank of Canada giving him the opportunity to live, work and play in many towns across Manitoba and Ontario. After retiring, he spent many years in Deming, New Mexico. There he cared for his walnut and pecan trees, always sharing his bounty of nuts with family and friends. The last few years were spent in his hometown of Boissevain where he had good friends.
Cremation has taken place and he will be interred close to his parents and brother. A celebration of his life will be planned for the summer of 2015.
Rest in peace and breathe easy.

Worked with Earl in Steinbach, Did a lot of curling with Earl then. We curled in Morris until Xmas as they had artificial ice. Also curled in a number of bonspiels in the area. He was a good curler, skipping the team. & won. Lot of games for us.
A good guy, sorry to,see him go.

Ian, Ryan and family:
So sorry to hear about your dad. Ron and I both worked with him in Steinbach in the late 1960’s – and then many years later reconnected in Russell. We remember your dad as a super intelligent man with the best dry sense of humour ever! Pretty good curler too!
Hugs across the miles!

I owe my 32 yr career with RBC to Earl Swain. Earl and I work together in Portage la Prairie. We worked our butts off, curled, played ball, football and had the odd beer together, well maybe more than the odd one. We both work for a very difficult Mgr.(A.M.) and when it became apparent that blood was about to flow(my own), Earl took it upon himself to drive to Winnipeg to meet with H.R. to have me transferred out of Portage.Ten days later,I was gone to an other branch and I have been thankful to him ever since. Earl, you have always been in my thoughts and that will remain so.
My deep respect,
Ron Gratton

This is not a reply but an add on. It is Oct 6/2023. I have been thinking today about friends that I have lost over the years that had a huge influence in where I am today. The first one to come to mind is Earl Swain. Thank you dude, I’m raising a glass to you.

Sorry to hear of Earl’s passing. Worked with him at RBC in Roblin. Very smart and a good guy. He always had a flair for the care free style so not surprised he spent some time in New Mexico growing nuts!
