Douglas Roy Edkins

1941 ~ 2024

On March 9th, 2024 the world lost an incredible man, Doug Edkins.

Doug was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and teacher. He was an amazing role model to all that knew him. Doug was known for his easy-going nature, kind demeanour and warm blue eyes. He will be missed by all.

He is survived by his children, Kinnon Tkach (Colin), Krista Edkins Lambert (Darren), and Gregg Edkins (Kana), his eight grandchildren – Kailey, Kira, Terrin, Gage, Wyatt, Reed, Sumire and Ayano, his brother Don Edkins and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Doug was predeceased by his wife Bonnie Edkins, parents Jack and Margaret Edkins, siblings Morris Edkins and Marlene Bergsgaard.

Doug was born in Sudbury, Ontario on January 3rd, 1941 and raised in Clearwater, Manitoba.

Doug taught middle school at Edmund Partridge and Ken Seaford.  He spent many hours coaching both his kids and his students.

Upon retirement, Doug and Bonnie moved to Pinawa, MB where they travelled, golfed, played bridge and curled.  They enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and ‘Papa’ taught another generation to be environmentalists.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their support and kindness.

We love you Dad, cheers!

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.

A celebration of life will be held at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour, MB on March 30th, 2024 at 1:00 pm.

I have fond remembrances of Doug from the years of curling with him and Bonnie in ‘Drop-In Curling here in Pinawa. Doug was a very kind, and easy going man, one who was friendly with everyone. Both your dad and mom were special people. My deepest sympathy in the loss of your dad and granddad.

We met Bonnie and Doug at the Pinawa Bridge club. They were very active in our bridge community for many years. Doug played with various partners after he lost Bonnie. We enjoyed knowing them and have missed them at The Bridge tables these past few years.

    Our condolences to the family.

Carl and I were very fortunate to be good friends and neighbors of Doug and Bonnie in Pinawa. We enjoyed golf, Saturday nite bridge and a few glasses of wine with them. Our thoughts are with Kinnon, Greg, Krista and families at this sad time. Wonderful memories of a wonderful friend. Carl and Gail

My sincere condolences to Doug’s family. I had the absolute pleasure of knowing both Doug and Bonnie through the Pinawa bridge club. They were two of the nicest people one could ever hope to meet. I looked after their dog Sam when they went in to Winnipeg to help with grandchildren. When my son passed away they hosted a bridge party for me in their home. They were so kind and thoughtful. It saddens me to know that they are both gone.
    Rest in peace, Doug.

My condolences to the family. Mr. E was my grade 7 homeroom teacher – he made the transition from elementary school to junior high a little less scary. Wonderful teacher!
