1942 ~ 2018

Donovan Davey of Lac du Bonnet, MB died peacefully on May 30, 2018 at Pinawa Hospital, with his family by his side.  Don had a short but brave battle with GBM – an aggressive brain cancer.

Don was born in Port Arthur, ON (Thunder Bay) to the late Eileen (Irwin) and Lloyd Davey.   Don spent many happy, satisfying years as principal in Schreiber and Terrace Bay Public Schools.  In retirement, Don found contentment and joy at home on the Winnipeg River near Lac du Bonnet.  He loved working in the yard and garden and making everything “just right for the kids”.  Don and Gail especially enjoyed cruising and touring Europe.  As an avid sports fan, Don was able to enjoy the recent Winnipeg Jets’  playoff run.

Missing him already are wife, Gail (Conrad); “our kids” Rob and Karen Wiebe; and his beloved grandchildren Mac (Lesley), Cy (Stephany), Emma and Kaiden.  Don will be lovingly remembered by nephew and niece, Travis (Myana) and Sara (Jayson) Conrad and families; and foster son David (Toni) Raciborski.  He is also survived by sister-in-law Cheryl Dixon; brother Brian (Donna) and family; aunts, uncles and cousins as well as “our second family” the Ferguson/Fenelon/Chow clan and many dear friends in Ontario, Manitoba and beyond.  Don is now reunited with his brother-in-law Daryll Conrad.

A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held on Wednesday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Lac du Bonnet Branch 164 of the Royal Canadian Legion, 45 McArthur Ave, Lac du Bonnet.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Siloam Mission Make Room Campaign, 300 Princess St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 1M3 would be appreciated as Don respected and supported the work done there.

Special thanks to CancerCare Manitoba Brain Tumour Clinic and all the wonderful staff in Selkirk, Pinawa and Health Sciences facilities, Lac du Bonnet Home Care Nurses and the IERHA Palliative Care Team.

Brian and Donna
Sorry for your loss. Don was my memorable grade 7 teacher. One of his first classes. He broke ground by reconfiguring the classroom. He brought some joy and music to our lives through the choir. He demonstrated caring and used humour as a way of relating to the students. I was always proud to know him even after he was no longer my teacher or my brother in law. My thoughts are with you and my great memories of Don.
