With broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend, Donald Shendroski (Shanty), who passed with his family at his side at the Ste. Anne hospital on May 22, 2021 at the age of 70.
He is predeceased by his son Randy, his parents Walter and Sophie and his brother Arthur.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Betty, his children Robert (Doreen), Sheri (Greg), Melanie, and Alex.
He is survived by his grandchildren Alley (Kelly), Mathew, Payton, Paige, Ryder, Avrie and Riley. As well he leaves his great-grandchildren Paisley-pie and Colt. He is also survived by his sister Florence (Bruce) and leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and in-laws.
Shanty grew up in the town he loved, Hadashville. He loved his family, especially his grandkids. He talked to everyone even though he was shy. He was a storyteller. His stories were legendary. He had a heart of gold and loved to help everyone. He loved animals and his John Deere tractors. He loved fishing, pig roasts and bon-fires. He loved to celebrate birthdays mostly because of the cake and ice-cream. It gives us joy to know dad is now with Wonderboy. They are probably talking St. Peter’s ear off at the Pearly Gates drinking tea and eating cake.
Shanty began his career on the railway and retired at Pineland Nursery in Hadashville.
Many thanks to Dr. Delaquis and the staff at the Ste. Anne hospital for their outstanding care and compassion. As per Don’s request, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

Remembering Donnie brings back so many good memories from our childhood in Zamek School and teenage years in Whitemouth to being neighbors in Hadashville, and God knows how many bouts of giggles at Pineland Nursery. Throughout all the years, Donnie was always a good natured, fun loving human being who would always find a happy solution to every problem. He would offer you the shirt off his back.
To Betty and Melanie, and the rest of the family, our sincere sympathy to all of you. We are sorry for your loss.
