With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Dennis Hewitt on January 4, 2022 at the age of 74 after a brief acute illness, but long-time challenges with diabetes and its complications. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 51 years, Heni and his cherished daughter Nadya; brothers Alger (Corrine) and John, and brothers-in-law Greg and Tom; step siblings Denise, Lillian and Emil; numerous nieces and nephews; and the close and special friends who became the family of his heart (Berta and Diana, the Allans, Barb-ara, Britton, Lenny, the Lukies and the Molinskis). He is predeceased by his parents Jessie and Douglas, parents-in-law Leda and Henry Podealuk, and his siblings Donald and Deanne.
He had the opportunity to work with many people across Canada throughout his career as a chef, and he made friends wherever he went. Dennis loved getting together to play games such as bridge, cribbage and Rummoli. He lived to cook and share his love of food. He was always there for a celebration, a libation, or a practical joke, and to raise his voice to toast (or roast) in good humour.
Dennis was joyful, boisterous and generous of his time and his culinary skills, and was famous for his meat pies. Dennis could make people laugh, sometimes as much in shock at his astute and irreverent observations as with his guffaws that genuinely exploded out of him at every opportunity. He felt the love for his wife, daughter, and friends as deeply as he expressed his joy. He will be forever remembered for his quick wit, sense of humour, love of family and friends, and kind heart.
Special thanks to Dr. Nick for his ongoing support; and to Dr. Walmsley and the medical staff, emergency medical technicians and paramedics in Beausejour who cared for Dennis in his final hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada, or Tree Canada.
Due to pandemic restrictions, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

My condolences to the Hewitt family and many friends. Dennis was such a kind, giving, gentle soul! He was often the hi light of my day when I got the opportunity to help him find something he was looking for in Rexall. Genuine appreciation for one’s time and effort. RIP Dennis!

Sending all my love and the biggest longest hug. Dennis was such a beautiful and wonderful soul that touched the lives of many and would brightened their day.
I’m grateful that I was able to work with him at the golf course when I was a teenager and him teaching me tips and tricks on how to cook and the hilarious stories and jokes he would tell. He always kept in touch and his face would just light up whenever he saw me.
He will be dearly missed by so many, but the incredible memories he made with everyone will live on forever in our hearts.
My deepest condolences to Heni, Nadya, family, extended family and friends.

My heart is broken to learn of Dennis’s ascent into Heaven. Heni and Nadia, I’m holding you in prayer as you move through sadness.
After being taught by my Mom, Dennis became my mentor in the kitchen. Always with joy and a huge hug, we’d start a shift. He could transform cauliflower soup into a flavourscape of deliciousness. Many times, he would tell me to go into the walk-in cooler to find something. Coming back empty handed, his booming voice corrected me: “You look, but you don’t see!”
One of my fondest memories was watching Dennis balance half of a boiled quail’s egg on his gigantic thumb and index finger, piping yolk from a comically huge pastry bag.
Dennis filled a room with love, laughter, teasing, and genuine care. He lived life in a big and boisterous way. I hope I can do the same until my time horizon is coming to its end.

I am so sorry to hear of Dennis’ passing . I will always remember him stopping for corn and talking up a storm with his hearty laugh. The most memorable was when he bought some corn and returned shortly after with the best corn chowder in a jar with a spoon . I was so thrilled, what a generous man . I have tried to make it , but it was never as good . Dennis was a colourful man who loved life . I am sorry his was too short. My deepest condolences to his wife and daughter and all his family. Rest In Peace dear friend .

Dennis, you were my dear friend.
Thanks for all the laughs, but most of all thank you for imparting upon me your biting cynicism and the years of experiences that came before it. I always loved listening, I could not get enough.
With love to you and yours, I wish you the best.
