Dennis Heckert
1953 ~ 2014
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Dennis William Heckert on December 5, 2014 in the Pinawa Hospital.
He will be missed and remembered with love and affection by his wife Bev Neisteter; his mother Margaret; his brother Darrell (Susan); his sister Sharlynne (Dave) and their children and grandchildren Larissa (Matt), Troy and Eden; Shayla (his God-daughter) and Kristopher; his brother Darren (Donna) and their children Candyce, Kristen and Tyson (his God-son); his brother-in-law Ronald (Carol) and their sons and grandsons Bryan, Christopher (Sharlene), Caleb and Zack; his sister-in-law Janice; as well as many relatives and friends.
Dennis was predeceased by his father William, his sister Darlene and his brother Durwin.
He was born in Beausejour, Manitoba on June 18, 1953 and his “home place” was in the R.M. of Brokenhead until he established his own place at “the farm”, an accomplishment of which he was very proud. He relocated to Lac du Bonnet after being diagnosed with dementia, a disease that stole all his memories and his independence. He did retain his wit, his sense of humour and his love of family and friends.
Dennis enjoyed his years working in construction in Manitoba and Ontario as a heavy equipment operator but his true passion was farming. He loved nature and animals and was a very talented man who could fix or build almost anything. He willingly shared his talents and experiences.
On behalf of Dennis, we would like to extend sincere gratitude to Dr. Bruneau, Kate, Crystal and the wonderful staff at the Pinawa Hospital. Thank-you to Kyle for the very special bond of friendship he and Dennis shared, to Ray and his family for taking care of the “little piece of heaven”, to Jane and Gilbert for all their help and visits but especially all the treats, to Norman and Iona for things too numerous to list and everyone who kept him in their thoughts and prayers.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at “the farm” this coming summer.
If anyone wishes to do so in memory of him, a donation to the Alzheimer Society will help others living with and caring for those who have dementia or, because animals were such a big part of his life, to The Humane Society or an animal shelter of their choice.
Offer Condolence for the family of Dennis Heckert
