In Memorial

1923 ~ 2012

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father at his home in Selkirk on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the age of 89.

He is predeceased by his sister Elaine Johnson and brother Eddie.  He will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 57 years Anne (Pastushenko), daughters Tamara and Rena, his grandchildren Sacha and Ava Semenko-Farion and Ethan Stiglich, his brothers John and Larry (Sharon), and his sisters Irene Beers and Diane (Al) Loader.  He also leaves to mourn his passing many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

He was born and raised in Sandhill, MB.  After completing high school he served as a Sergeant in WWII overseas.  After the war, he went to University of Manitoba and received his Bachelor of Pedagogy.  He taught science and math for many years in the Selkirk area.  After he retired in Selkirk, he went on to be a commissionaire at Lower Fort Garry.

David had a passion for history and astronomy.  He was very proud of his whole family.  He loved to read and was a very patriotic Canadian.  He was a down to earth man and a minimalist.

As per David’s request, cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place in the future.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amnesty International.

Condolences for the family of “David Semenko”

Condolence from Tamara Semenko on October 27th, 2012 2:56 pm

Dad….I love you and miss you so much, already. I can’t believe you”re gone! I thought you’d had at least another 10 year’s with us, like your mom. You were a one in a million dad and in your quiet way had such a huge heart and would do anything you could for family. You had such a high capacity for thought and reason……carrying on in your footsteps is a very tall order, but you taught me well.
Your loving daughter,
Tamara

My sincerest condolences to the entire Semenko family. I know that his passing is a shock and in the coming days you will still find it hard to believe. Dave had a quiet and steady spirit and he only wanted the best for his family.

Rest in peace, Dave

Liz

I met you in ftmcmurry . Watched you play for years. One of your biggest fans and you shall not be forgotten. We talked and laughed and it wasn’t about hockey. Sorry and sad to hear you passed. Meet you again I’m sure. My condolences to the family. He was a calm man with a great sense of humor. Thought we would cross paths again but never did. It was a good evening on a hot summer evening when he brought Stanley to fortmac. God bless him and his family.
