David Bell passed from this life on Friday, April 10, 2020. He was born in Beith, Scotland to William and Mary Bell on October 6, 1930. He emigrated to Canada as a young man finding employment with the Atomic Energy of Canada Limited initially in Deep River, Ontario and moving to Pinawa, Manitoba as an early resident of the community. He remained in Pinawa following his retirement and until his health failed him. He resided at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour from August 2018 until his passing.

David was predeceased by his parents and his brother in law, James McCrorie. He is survived by his sister – Reena, his children – Mary-Jane (Peter), Allan (Sandra) and Lorraine (Scott) and his grandchildren – Margaret, David, Calum, Caitlin and Sarah.

David was a regular at many of the local watering holes in Pinawa and area during his retirement years. He would sit with his coffee (or his beer) and watch the world go by. As his mobility decreased, he spent many hours soaking in the Manitoba sunshine, first on his deck at home and later in the East Gate courtyard.

The family would like to acknowledge the community of Pinawa, especially his neighbours, Kevin and Dawn Borgford and Barb Lambert, for their support that allowed David to stay safely in the community. We are also grateful to all of the staff of East Gate Lodge for their care during the past two years.

Thank you to the facility and regional administration for finding a creative way for his family to be with him as he finished his journey while keeping others in his community isolated and safe.

At David’s request, cremation has taken place and no formal ceremony will be held.

Lorraine,
I was sorry to hear of your father’s passing and offer my prayers and condolences to you and your family. As you know, your father, David, and my husband, Frank, were neighbours in Pinawa Hospital for some months back in 2018. We enjoyed spending time chatting with him almost every day for those several months. Your calls and visits were always a highlight for him.

Condolence from Shawn and Karla Elcock on April 14th, 2020 3:52 pm

We had many visits over coffee or Beer. We always appreciated Dave’s friendship and kindness to our Grandfather Sam. Here is hoping that they enjoy a never ending happy hour. Our sympathy to the family.
Sincerely, The Elcocks

Mary Jane, Allan, and Lorraine:

I am so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. He was a great man and always had interesting stories to tell. He was a confirming soul for my father when my mother passed and I will forever be grateful for his support.

He will be missed by many. I got to see him on a trip back to Pinawa and was thrilled that he remembered me. God bless.

We were sorry to hear of the passing of Dave, our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. When we lived in Pinawa, owned the Motor Inn he would come in every morning. We truly enjoyed sitting with him, he was such a wonderful man. Kind, thoughtful, and so much more. He will definitely be missed.

Dave and his family was our neighbor on Burrows Rd., just two doors away in the early sixties when our children were small and our front lawns were still clay. They were muddy but carefree days, with kids running in and out of each others home.

It is with sadness in our hearts that we wish to offer our sincerest condolences to your family at this time of sorrow.

Condolences to Dave’s family. All those years ago working at the Pinawa Club, I have to smile remembering the 50 on the floor for Dave. He was a kind man.

I remember Dave very well. He worked in a lab directly across from my office on the 2nd floor of building 300 in the 1960s & ’70s. (I left Pinawa and AECL in 1977). He was generally just a “nice guy”. In fact, a very nice guy. Quiet, gentle and a dedicated worker. Very sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family,
