Daniel Lavoie

October 25, 1978 – March 18, 2021

It is with unimaginable sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of Daniel; or ‘Red’ as most knew him. Daniel will be forever missed by his loving wife, Desiree; his parents Maurice and Madeleine Lavoie; his siblings Justin (Erin); Yves; and Mireille (Randy); In-laws Albert and Darlene Lamoureux; Brother-in-law Adam (Shelby); Sister-in-law Dawn (Jason). He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews; Theo, Olivier, Julien, Sofie, Felix; Andre; Carlee, Jack; Ayla; Kinley and Rory; as well as his friends’ children who all looked up to and knew him as ‘Uncle Red’. A large void will also be felt by many family members, and friends that he made feel like family.

Dan grew up in St. Georges, and their family later moved out to Broadlands. This environment fuelled his passion for anything outdoors, and his connection to the area drove Dan, Des and Alder to purchase their own piece of paradise out there. The Cabin is where his heart was, and would head across any chance he got; to work, play or ride. His strong work ethic and patience gave him the skill to fix and perfect anything. He was always up for a visit and had a special way of turning any task into a social get together; which usually left someone with a lesson learned. Dan lived life without boundaries, and he spent his last day doing what he loved.

Words cannot express the gratitude we feel towards the Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART) for their expertise and compassion in bringing Dan home. If you feel the need to help, we encourage donations be made to the HEART Team.

Daniel’s urn has been handcrafted with honour by Desiree’s father Albert Lamoureux. The wood used to build it was from an ash tree Dan cut down at the cabin, and milled by Albert.

Private services are arranged for the immediate family, and a celebration of Daniel’s life will be held at a later date.

I remember growing up with by big cousin down the road, you and your brothers would come down the road to the farm when we where little and the Lavoies, Dupont and Wilcott kids all played in the mud, on sleds or three wheelers or just getting into mischief.

You where a genuine good person, rest easy and watch out over your large extended family. Rest in Peace Red.

    Your cousin Joshua Wilcott

Though I rarely got the chance to see Daniel, he always held a special place in my heart, having grown up with my sons and having spent so much time as a little boy in our home. I cannot imagine the pain you feel as my heart is broken and each mention of his name brings me tears. I pray that the wonderful memories of Daniel will bring all some comfort as time goes on.

So sorry for your loss to all family and friends. I still remember to this day every time I’d see Red he would yell out “ lil’ rouge, what’s happening”. I’m definitely going to miss him. Once I moved to the city we didn’t talk much but when I did run into him it’s like I never left which is the case with most of the crew. Rest easy Red. Lil’ Rouge

We would like to send our deepest condolences to Des, the entire family and all the friends of Daniel. Words cannot express the heartfelt sadness we feel for the tragic passing of such a kind hearted man. Jason has many memories growing up on the same street as Red and too many stories of wonderful adventures together to keep count of. May all of our fond memories help to bring peace and comfort during this most difficult time. He will live on in our memories forever.

I will always remember that smile. He always greeted his friends with a mixed smile of greeting and mischief. My brother’s best friend. He always referred to me as little James. Or Shaun James little Sister, until he got to know me, than I was forever Holly James. A good friend he was. I will always remember the years we were all inseparable!

Very sad for such a loss. I got to know Daniel via the shop in LdB. He was always very helpful and would take the time to explain the mechanics of the problem. Dan’s assistance was genuine and made it obvious that he was kind and cared about the people he came in contact with. Condolences to all….Fred

Although I did not personally know Daniel, my thoughts are with both families,.
Some years ago, we as a family, also experienced our own hardship with losing a local, fun loving, caring, and vibrant young man.
It was heart wrenching to say the least…
My prayers are with you all… sincerely Jo-Anne
