Cleada Myra Margaret Vatrt (nee VanAchte)

November 12, 1939 ~ August 26, 2020

It is with broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Cleada Myra Margaret Vatrt, on Wednesday, August 26th at the Selkirk General Hospital.

Cleada will be lovingly remembered and leaves behind to mourn, her beloved husband Joe of 62 years, son Brad Vatrt (Corinne), daughter Kim Champagne (Kevin), grandchildren Chris Champagne (Megan), Joey Champagne (Shawna), Shannon Vatrt (Derek), Colin Vatrt (Chantel), Shelby Lamoureux (Adam) and her great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Laya, Ava, Maya, Madden, Ayla, sister-in-law Pat, brother-in-law Joe Krizak and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cleada was born in Carman, Manitoba, November 12th, 1939 to Cyril and Julia VanAchte.  She spent her early years living in the St. Alphonse Convent, with her sisters, Freda and Audrey and brother David.  Later, she met the love of her life, Joe Vatrt and they were married on August 23rd, 1958.  Cleada spent most of her career working at the Scotia Bank and after they both retired, they moved to Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba.

Our Mom, “Gramma Cleada” or Aunty was a special lady, with a sunny and loving personality, always looking at the brighter side of life, despite her early years.  She was quick to smile, laugh, give a hug and little advice.  Cleada loved to visit family, cook, shop, garden and more than anything, make beautiful flower arrangements.

She was predeceased by her sisters Irma Castle, Freda Tomchuk, Audrey Krizak and brother David VanAchte.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice and keep a special memory of Cleada close to your heart.

Cremation has taken place and a family celebration of her life will take place at a later date.

The unthinkable event has come to transpire and has left us all deeply emotionally wounded. Warm thoughts and prayers for Cleada & Joe.

When I think of “Auntie” the thoughts of her are never sad; she was like a second mom to us Vatrt kids, never judged and always supported us. She helped shape my life and I am richer for it. We spent so much time together and the most memorable times were Christmas at our farm.

Although I don’t think she knew i,t auntie was a great funny story teller. No pun intended but the “bank teller” robbery story is script you just can’t write; movie material! Auntie was an honest person evidenced by the stories she told to us; they were the honest truth because each time she told them the story never changed!

Thank you Auntie for all you did for us and your unconditional love!

    Auntie Cleada,
So many memories to hold dear in our hearts. Back on Tomchuk Farms as a child, I wasn’t allowed to go in the pool until after lunch and you said I could go in before! It made my day. We all enjoyed your visits on the Farm.
Thinking about never being able to call you up and chat is going to be a hard one for all of us.
    Sending condolences to our Family

    Kim, Kevin & Family,

I’m so very sorry to hear about Cleada’s passing. Your Mom and I became friends a few years ago. We didn’t see each other often, but when we did meet by chance, she always said “Oh there’s my friend” and sat close by so we could have a visit. The last time we spoke she was so excited about Shelby and Adam’s upcoming wedding and all her new little great-grandchildren. She always asked about my mother-in-law (her perogie-making friend) when she was ill, and missed her when she was gone. She was a very friendly and caring lady and will be missed. My most sincere condolences.

    Janice Hoffman
