1923 ~ 2011
Peacefully on November 16, 2011, Cecil aged 88 years, passed into the arms of the Lord surrounded by his family.
Left to cherish his memory is loving daughters Brenda Calder and Barbara Calder; son-in-law Arnold Goetz; three grand children Chantelle (John), Danielle (Cole), Philip; two great grand children, Brenda and Mackenzie; sister-in-law Nada Bell (Bill); nephews Dennis Bell (Marlene) and Bill Bell; brother Don Calder (Inez); niece Donna Jean Crawford (Carl).
Cecil was predeceased by his wife Naome Winona in 2001.
Cecil was born October 21, 1923 in Killarney, Manitoba. He served in the Canadian Army Signals Corp. from 1942 to 1945 and was part of the forces that liberated Holland. After WWII, he met the love of his life. Naome Winona, and lived in Red Lake, Winnipeg, Seven Sisters, Thompson, Great Falls, and finally in Lac Du Bonnet beside the river he greatly loved. He had a long career with Manitoba Hydro, served in the Army Reserves, and was a member of the Pine Falls Legion where he was the Secretary for many years. He was respected by his many co-workers and friends. He was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church in Lac Du Bonnet and was always ready to help family and friends whenever he was asked. Dad, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and friend, you will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service in Cecil’s memory will take place on Saturday November 19, 2011 at St John’s Anglican Church in Lac Du Bonnet, MB, with Rev. John Giroux officiating. His remains will be interred in the Riverland Cemetery which will be family only please.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Whitemouth Personal Care Home and to Dr. Richard van Gend for their care and compassion shown to Cecil during his stay.
