Carl Richard Plohman

1943 ~ 2022

It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our cherished and beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother and uncle at the age of 78 after a difficult but courageous fight against brain cancer.

He will be forever loved and missed by his wife Shirley (Altman) (married 56 years), daughter Crystal Wiegman (William), sons James (Tracy) and Jason (Raegan), beloved grandchildren, Trent, Rhea, Liat, Kelsie, Josh, Cohen and Brooklyn and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by siblings John (Pat), Grant (Judy), Gary (Shaunda), Muriel (James, deceased) and Lorna (Ron).  He was predeceased by parents Hans and Anne Plohman, brother Jim, granddaughter Chloe, in-laws Reinhard and Elsie Altman.

Carl taught himself to play fiddle at age 13 and performed with many bands and family across North America.  He was a talented fiddler and won many fiddle competitions in both Canada and the USA culminating in his induction in the Manitoba Fiddle Association Hall of Fame. His music will live on through his daughter Crystal and grandchildren Kelsie, Rhea, Liat and Josh.

He was a very loving, kind and gentle soul and had a smile that lit up the room.  Carl loved to travel and went to places such as New Zealand, Fiji, Costa Rica, China and Hawaii.  He also took cruises through the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Mediterranean and a 28 day voyage through the South Pacific.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Bachelor of Education and taught school for 33 years. He always made everyone feel important and inspired many students to continue their education in University.

His children and grandchildren were his great pride and joy.  He enjoyed spending time with them sharing his love of fiddling, playing golf, ping pong, curling and debating science problems with his grandson Trent. He loved to attend their musical and sports activities and was so very proud of their achievements.

We would like to thank our family and friends, homecare workers and Beausejour hospital staff for their care and understanding.

A celebration of life will be held in the summer due to the pandemic.
