Buddy August Osis

1942 ~ 2014

On April 10^th, at the young age of 71, Buddy August Osis passed away peacefully, with his family by his side.

Dad was born in Pine Falls in 1942, his mother Mary said he was so big (10+ lbs.) that she didn’t have to carry him home, she said she held his hand and they walked out of the hospital together.  He was a combination of two great families, the Osis side, who were quiet, shy and a little reserved and the Soroka side which were not.

As a boy kid, Dad grew up in Lac du Bonnet, and in 1963 married the love of his life Mae Hirst.  A few years later, after getting his pilot’s license, the two of them moved with their two sons to Wabowden.  Dad worked there for a couple of years flying for Cross Lake Air Service.

In the late 60’s dad moved the family back to Lac du Bonnet, he then bought some property in Powerview, and this is where the next venture started.  In 1971, dad built “the shop”, which became the second location of the family lumberyard business.  He commuted back and forth between the two communities for a year, before building their family home in beautiful downtown Powerview in 1972.  Dad would spend the next 21 years running the business.  In these years, he also had his hands in many other things, like having a snowmobile dealership and running a successful wild rice operation.  During this time is when he also discovered his love of motorcycles, especially big burgundy shiny ones!

He truly cherished his time spent in Powerview.  It was here that he met so many great people, people who became lifelong friends.  In 1992, mom and dad decided that the city life was not for them, and moved to the family cottage in Bird Lake.  It was here where dad was most comfortable, and said it was where he belonged.

Dad was a talented man, if you needed something fixed, welded, or just figured out, he was there to help.  He gave everyone the benefit of the doubt, and would always help someone in their time of need.  He believed that you should only treat people the way you would like to be treated. Dad was predeceased by his father August Osis, his mother Mary (Soroka), his sister-in-law Carol Paczkoski, his nephew Danny Osis, and his brothers-in-law: Bernie Buhay and Ignace Paczkoski.

Dad will be sadly missed by his sister Gale (Alfie) Apsit; his brother Gilbert (Penny); his mother-in-law Grace Hirst; his in-laws:  Wally (Karen), Richard (Joanne), Charlie (Sally), Joyce (Terry), and a large extended family of numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who all loved him very much.

Also grieving are your two sons: Brent (Lynn) and Michael (Natalie).  Dad adored his two daughters-in-law, he always said they were the best thing that happened to his boys.  He loved you girls dearly.  Dad’s pride and joy were his five grandchildren: Kendra, Brady, Colin, Karinne and Julie; nothing put a bigger smile on his face then visits from his little angels.  Sunday breakfast at the lake was routinely interrupted by Grandpa and his grandbabies sneaking ice cream (eaten with a fork) or chocolate, before the eggs hit the table.  He loved you all very much!

Lastly, dad will be forever missed by the most important person in his life, his wife Mae.  They started dating back in 1959, and would spend the next 55 years loving each other.

Dad, your memory will forever live within our hearts.  We love you so very much!

Cremation has taken place.  A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
