Audrey C. Hoey (nee Kilborn)

1931-2020

Audrey passed peacefully at her home in East Gate Lodge in Beausejour on Sunday, January 26, 2020, after a long and arduous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  She left her shoes behind, she never liked them anyway.

She will be reunited with her husband John (Jack) Hoey (2006), her parents Percy (1966) and Doris Kilborn (1979), sister Orlene Kubicek (2016), brother Ron Kilborn (2018) and brother in-law Roger Hoey (2012).

She is loved and missed by her son Murray and Kim (Bukoski), her grandchildren Reid and Ben, her daughter Karen and Jim Kozier, her sister Del Howard, brothers Al Kilborn (Louise) and Bob Kilborn (Beth), sisters in-law Deanna Kilborn and Mae Hoey and brother in-law Lynn Kubicek, and all of her nieces and nephews and their families.

Proud moments in her life were amplified with the arrival of her grandchildren, Reid and Ben.  She has always been very proud of them and their accomplishments.  In their younger days, they had the tradition of making gingerbread houses every Christmas, where lots of candy never made it on the houses.  Both boys always got their favourite pie made for them on their birthdays.

Audrey was an artist by heart and by trade.  A natural teacher, her reward came from her students and the joy they derived from their work.  She ran her ceramic and porcelain doll craft business from her home for over 40 years.  The studio was a place of fun gathering where many good friendships were made through the art that they loved.  Audrey was a master artisan of Porcelain Dollcraft and spent her time learning, teaching and travelling as a Duncan Ambassador in the early years.  Let’s not forget the Teddy Bears.  Always active in the community for more than 50 years from 4-H, The UCW (United Church Women’s Group), Bowling, The Lily Garden, Quilting and the Beausejour Craft Sale, where she was a founding member.  She was always surrounded by fellowship and enjoyed every minute of it.

Audrey and Jack both worked hard, so on the weekends they loved to get away.  Every Friday night for over 35 years they went to their spot in the Whiteshell Provincial Park, where Mum painted on everything she could find.  Blueberries were one of her favourites.  They took time to go on many trips to the East Coast and to Alaska.  She got her wish and travelled to England, Scotland and Ireland where she kissed the Blarney Stone.  They travelled many times to visit with family in Alberta.  She was very interested in our family trees and belonged to the Kilbourn Genealogical Society.  Having a big family, she was always involved with her many nieces and nephews and their growing families.  She could always be counted on to fill us in on who got married, and the newest members of the family.  We appreciated that.

In the last two years she took up residence at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour.  She was always grateful for the nurses, aides and volunteers with the love and care they showed to her.  There she found fellowship again, as always, she was giving and thinking of others.  We will always be grateful for that.

Audrey was an outstanding lady with a heart of gold and great compassion for life.  She taught us to know that we are all creative, we just need to recognize our medium.

A Memorial Service is planned for Friday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour.

We have so many good times with your Mom. The Beausejour Craft Show was one of her accoomplicements . We are entering our 34 show and she was with me at the very beginning. We all worked hard but had your Mom keep us on the straight and narrow. Our condolences to you Karen, Merry and and all family. Love from the Beausejour Craft Show com. and volunteers.
