4 Condolences

Arthur Lodge

1929 ~ 2014

Art’s family wishes to announce his peaceful passing during the early hours of September 17th at the Pinawa Hospital.

He is survived by his wife Merna of 55 years, his four children and nine grandchildren:  Kenneth (Cindy) Lodge (Bryce, Brenden); Karen (Carl) Nilsson (Laura and husband Marc, Brenlee, Dael); Bryan (Christine) Lodge (Kerri, Carley); Catherine (Ryon) Sellers (Lance, Shane).

Art was predeceased by his parents Pat and Exilda, brother Emile and sister Margurite. He leaves his sisters Yvonne, Irene and, brother Albert, as well as a large extended family.

Art lived, worked and raised his children in the US where Merna was from, then moved back to Lac du Bonnet in 1973.  Art had many stories about different jobs he had over his lifetime that took him across Canada, Mid-West U.S., and Northern Manitoba.  His last 15 years of employment were with Abitibi in the Woods Department.  While working on construction crews in the U.S., he took a young worker under his wing and Dean Teten of Omaha, Nebraska, became a close family friend whose many trips to Canada to fish and visit, Art enjoyed immensely.

In his retirement years, Art always made sure the birds were well fed during the cold winter months.  Art enjoyed growing a large vegetable garden and many flowers.  He loved fishing and reading, and spent countless hours helping out at Environmental Option Recycling Shop until his heart problem began in 2010.

In his last few years, Art persevered through a series of illnesses.  Many thanks to his neighbors for helping out with yard work, trips to doctor appointments, etc., and to the doctors and staff of the Pinawa Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, and for those who wish, donations may be made in Art’s memory to the Lac du Bonnet Community Centre, or the Pinawa Hospital.

According to Art’s wishes, there will be no service.  Cremation has taken place.
