Alvin Klapprat

Posted By Sobering Funeral Chapel On January 23, 2023 @ 10:16 am In Obituaries | 18 Comments

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved Father, Grandfather Alvin Klapprat. On January 17, 2023 he was reunited with his wife Alice who was the song of his soul.

He leaves his memories to be cherished by his children, Scott (Jill), Larissa (Doug); grandchildren, Amanda (Kurt), Braden (Sky), Taylor & Ella; great granddaughter, Harley; brother Wilbert (Cecelia) Klapprat; sisters Lorraine (Louis) Germaine, Beverley (Edward) Strick. Nine nieces & nephews, along with many great nieces, nephews, relatives & friends.

Dad was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years; infant daughter; sister Linda; brother Lawrence & sister-in law Brenda Klapprat; parents Ferdinand & Erna Klapprat; in-laws Joseph & Anne Kunderman.

Dad was immersed in so many parts of the community throughout his life & had many interesting jobs in his career. Some memorable ones are: working for Russell’s funeral home as an undertaker, spending 25 years working in Pinawa at the Atomic Energy plant, ambulance driver & volunteer fire fighter for the Beausejour/Brokenhead Fire Department. Later which he became the Fire Chief. Down the road he became the Fire Commissioner for Winnipeg & teaching instructor at the Brandon Fire College.

Mom & Dad were also involved with the Zion Lutheran Church for many years. Mom taught Sunday School & Dad was part of the chair board, and they loved frequenting gospel jams. His deep love of music had convinced him to pursue guitar lessons. This led to Mom & Dad making wonderful memories together, singing & playing music with family, while making many friends over the years and creating some unforgettable fish fry jams. When Dad wasn’t gardening or jamming, he loved to go fishing & hunting or sometimes just deer watching. He would talk about what a great time he had all year long.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Alvin was on the Board of Directors at the Association of Community Living in Beausejour of which I was also a member. I admired Alvin for his gentle spirit as well as his humor. He was a respectful very caring man who was always finding ways to make the lives of the clients more meaningful in so many ways. He will be truly missed.

Our sincere condolences to the families of Alvin & Alice Klapprat. They were good, salt of the earth people. I enjoyed working with Alvin on many projects / committees during our time together on Beausejour Town Council and especially our little “think tank” sessions in the sunroom, attached to their garage. He had a wealth of knowledge that he willingly shared with council members, staff and the general public. He was a well respected member of town council. With the passing of his soulmate Alice, he was not the same outgoing person we once knew. Now they are together again, forever. Rest in Peace

My deepest sympathy to Alvin’s family. He was a wonderful person.
I worked for the Town when he was councilor and it was a pleasure to work under him. I enjoyed listening to him and Ella singing at the legion. RIP Alvin.

Sincere condolences and prayers to Scott and Larissa and your families in this time of grief and sorrow. We recall the dozens of places and countless number of times when we shared mostly Country Gospel music with so many friends and for so many more friends. Alvin’s favorite line in a favorite song was “Let me watch my children [Grandkids] grow to see what they become”. His greatest pride and joy was singing with Ella and his beloved Alice. Be at Peace Alvin and may there be endless Music Jams.

Alvin served on the board of the Brokenhead River Community Hall for a number of years, which is when we got to know him & Alice. He was a friendly guy with a good sense of humor.

Condolence from Elaine Merke and family on January 26th, 2023 6:15 pm

So sad to hear of Alvin’s passing, also of the passing of his wife Alice. Both of them were such great people and we are sure they will be missed greatly. We remember them in the A&A store, always so friendly and always ready to share a song or two. Roland remembers Alvin always asking him to play “Faded Love” whenever we would get together for a jam session. We will miss seeing them at our (so few lately) jam sessions, it was always a joy to have both Alvin & Alice there and having “little” Ella join him on stage for a song or two. Rest in peace both of you, may there always be a jam session somewhere and one that you won’t have to bring equipment.

Elaine Merke, Eddy, Jen, Roland, Jos, and Keryn Volmering

Condolence from Gail Deleau/John Linklater on February 2nd, 2023 12:48 pm

We were so sad to hear of your Dad’s passing Larrisa and Scott. It must be a very difficult time for
you and your families. Your Dad was one of the first people to welcome us to the community when
we opened our music store and he quickly got us involved with the music side of the community
getting us to play at the Elim Gospel jam so people got to know us. He was always very supportive
of what we did and we enjoyed playing music with him and Alice. He was a very nice person with
a very big, soft, heart for people. He is missed.

John and Gail
