January 7, 1958 – April 12, 2019
It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I confirm Allan Richard Laschuk, my beloved husband of 34 years, lost his long fight with cancer on April 12th, 2019. He died peacefully at home with family after a valiant fight he knew he could not win.
He was a husband, father, son, son-in-law, brother and brother-in-law, an uncle, a godfather, a grampa and a Papa. He was also a life friend to a few who knew him well.
He was an outdoor enthusiast who loved hunting, golf, camping, fishing and quadding. Hunting was his passion. These adventures created great memories and shared stories and Al would always be the first to pull you out if you got hung up during a quad ride. He ate many meals heated right in the can, or sausage over the fire. He loved to fish and we spent many hours on the water. He loved watching his grandchildren grow and was grateful to have had the time he stole from this horrific disease.
Many thanks to his palliative care team including his Doctors and Nurses throughout Manitoba Cancer Care… to the Pain Management and Palliative Team… I cannot thank you enough for taking all of our calls and for helping to come up with another option when we had done everything we could do… and to his favorite Pharmacists, we could not have done this without you.
Thanks to those of you, near and far who have through this process, made a call to encourage us, stopped in to shovel the walk, bring in some wood for the fire, took out our garbage or helped Allan with repairs to keep his stuff running, for calling or stopping by to keep him in the loop, for sitting with him when I could not and for “going with him” even when it only sounded like a good idea and for planning with us to get him back out on the water. He held great promise he would camp and fish this coming summer… thanks for inviting us to the next event even when we missed the last two… for the hugs and patience, for your calls and prayers, we have been truly blessed.
Thanks to my co-workers at Co-op for your continued patience and the wonderful food trays, to our family and friends for the meals and of course, the wine that kept us fed through this challenging time. I have not done a dish, made a meal or done a load of laundry…. And thanks to my family who only yesterday took down our Christmas lights and prepared the deck for summer.
A special thank you to my wonderful parents for their love, care and keeping me safe…I love you.
Finally, thank you to our daughter, Tamara for all your support at this horrible time and your faith that I can make it through this unbearable pain… My Gate Keeper… I love you.
Babe, I miss you already and am not sure what I will do… when the car made a funky noise and you went out at midnight to check it so that I would be safe the next day… to make another carving stand, file an ‘edge’, paint it a different color… again… for your humorous POS when I lose my stuff… when I need a second opinion or just someone to open the jars…. and for always having my back.
I thank God, for he has taken you to a better place where you can once again walk with Red, play a round of golf, eat a medium rare steak and all the deer are 10 pointers. I wish you peace and know I will see you again.
For those who knew Allan you know it is per his wishes that there will be no formal service. Close friends and family are catching up as we remember him with stories and tears.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cancer Care Manitoba.
Love Always xxoo♥️

Dear Cheryl, I am so sorry to hear of this news, although I am certain Al, is in a better place now.
Even though he is not with us physically, his spirit lives on….in the wind that blows, in the new green buds that grow on the trees, in the birds that chirp every morning, in the grass that will start to sprout in the spring, in the rain drops that fall, and in every piece of nature you see.
Al loved being outdoors and continues to be a part of that today and everyday!
Sending you hugs xoxoxo

Dear Cheryl.
I never got to meet your husband except for all the stories you told me. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family at this time. Your journey was never easy but had its great moments I’m sure. May your faith uphold you and know that he is now pain-free. Wishing you PEACE to bring comfort, COURAGE to face the days ahead and the LOVING MEMORIES to forever hold in your heart. Grief never ends…but it changes. It’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a weakness, nor a lack of faith…It’s the price of love.
Much love, Barb Kintop

Cheryl, what a wonderful memorium you wrote, in just a few minutes you shared a lifetime of memories and moments that tell a story of a truly great guy, friend, father, grandpa and partner. His fight is over and he is in a better place, we are sad because we know people like him are impossible to replace, but we are lucky he lives on in our heart.

Gone now are the days we shared, however, the depth of the sorrow that we now feel will ease. Then, as time marches on, we will reach into the gates of our memory that of which will never close.
