1931 ~ 2017

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear father Alex of Tyndall, MB on February 24, 2017 at the age of 85 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his friend Verna, his children Charlene (Gary), Corinne (Neil), Bridget (Gene), Daryl (Rhonda).  His grandchildren Noah, Natalie, Wyatt, Rylin, Denly, Chase, Jude, Paige and Kali.  Siblings Elsie, Vera, Mary, Roy and Ida.  He was predeceased by his wife Margaret, son Kevin, brother William and sister Marguerite.

Dad was born November 28, 1931 in Haywood MB.  As a young boy the family moved to the Tyndall area where farming became a way of life that he loved.  Dad worked at Abex for over 20 years where he made many friends.  Along with raising a young family he hauled topsoil and farmed into his 80’s.

Dad was an active member with the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed meeting and making friends at the local coffee shops and casinos.

Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E, Beausejour, MB.  Interment will follow at St. Mary Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery in Beausejour.

The family graciously declines all flowers, however if friends so desire, a donation may be made to a charity of choice.

Condolence from Kathy Fecio on March 4th, 2017 8:41 am

Alex Katazinski was a kind, respectful person as well as a true gentleman. He lived an exemplary life, raising his five children single handedly after his wife Margaret passed away at a young age. He was a true family man, ensuring his brother Willie was helped when needed. As their parents had already passed, he helped in making a large wedding for his sister Ida, though he was not a wealthy person. That was Alex. In addition, Alex was a good neighbour, an interesting friend and an all round good person. His children are so blessed in having him for a Father. Condolences also to Verna, as she has lost her handsome dancing partner as well as the love of her life. Although I am the youngest of our family from Sand Hill, I remember the kindness he showed to everyone he met.

Condolence from Andrew and Maryanne Dolenuk on March 4th, 2017 3:10 pm

I grew up just a mile south of Alex’s Mom and Dad’s homestead. I went to Greenwich School with Alex’s brothers Roy and William and sister Ida. I was the youngest and remember always walking behind the older children in order to break the cold wind in the winter time. Along with the Wilkes, Schreyer’s and Katazinksi’s we would make the trek to Greenwich School which was a mile and a half from our place which was on the Selkirk Line.

I will be forever grateful to Alex as he was a comfort to my Mom when she was home alone when my Dad was away working for Manitoba Power Commission (Manitoba Hydro). Mom would mention how grateful she was because she knew that Alex would always be there if she needed help. She looked forward to the visits from Alex’s young children.

I will always remember Alex as a true gentleman, with a smile on his face and words of cheer and encouragement during conversations with him. You will truly be missed Alex. May God’s Grace and Peace be always with you in Heaven and your family here on Earth!
