Lorraine Mary-Jane (Berthelette) Laporte, in her 84th year, passed away peacefully at Pine Falls General Hospital on Friday, February 3, 2017, with many of her children nearby. Mass of Resurrection to be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. – beginning with the Rosary at 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Notre Dame du Laus Roman Catholic Church in Powerview, MB.
Lorraine was born at Transconna, Manitoba on November 10, 1932. From a young age, Lorraine had an unwavering faith and love for Jesus. As a young girl, she attended mass faithfully and often talked of her family taking the boat across the river to go to church. Lorraine’s faith and love for Jesus transcended throughout her lifetime. As a mother, Lorraine wanted her children to be raised in faith and to know Jesus. A devout Catholic Lorraine took her children to mass faithfully, ensured they attended Catechism classes and received their sacraments. Asked at 83 years of age what Lorraine felt her purpose in life was, she responded “to bring her children back to God”. In later years, Lorraine enjoyed singing with the church choir and being part of the Eucharist Ministry visiting and bringing communion to the sick. Lorraine’s spiritual gift was prayer. No matter where she was before meals she would bow her head in prayer. Lorraine belonged to the Prayer Group. When prayers were needed for someone Lorraine would receive a call asking her to pray. Lorraine’s devotion to prayer was praying the Rosary every morning when she awoke and every evening before she went to sleep. Lorraine had a thirst for the Word of God. She read her Bible every morning along with her daily readings. Wherever Lorraine traveled she would bring her Bible and daily readings with her. Her family would chuckle because her Bible and daily readings would take up half of her suitcase.

To Jackie, Corinne, Gerald and the Arsenault Family.
Aunt Lorraine was a kind, caring and loving woman who, no matter when I crossed Canada in my military career and stopped to say hello, always had a smile, a cup of tea and made me feel at home. My parents (Ed and Marie Fountain) were good friends with your mom and Uncle Huey and I remember fondly the occasions when we visited Lac Du Bonnet and spent time with them.
Aunt Lorraine’s gentle manner will be sorely missed, and while she now rests in heaven and sings in the choir with Pepére, Nana and the rest of the family, we are lessened by her absence. May Aunt Lorraine and the angels watch over her family and those who loved her.
