June 26, 1929 to August 10, 2010
After a long and courageous battle, Leonard, our dad, left this world to be with our mom, his wife Irene.
Leonard was born in Golden Bay, MB. He lived his whole life in Beausejour. He will be sadly missed by his three daughters: Faith (Ralph) Suttorp, Roxanne Lowen and Christine Singbeil; grandchildren, Leanna (Aaron) and Andrew Lamb; Jaclyn (Dan)Suttorp; David (Sara), Hailey, Kyler, Dylan Suttorp; Jason Suttorp; Jolene, Brad, Taylor and Kayla Watt; Carey, Madison, Stacey (Kelly) Lowen; Brittany (Matt), Aiden, Caitlin and Nicole Peters. He will also be missed by his sisters-in-law Anne Neiser, Marge Sawchuk and Doreen (Harry) Stefaniuk, Verna Reich and Tillie Singbeil, as well numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife Irene, his son-in-law Frank Santa, his parents Reinhold and Helena Singbeil, his in-law parents Frank and Edith Reich, his brothers Harry, Ervin, John, and William Singbeil and sister Elsie Richter, brother-in-law Rudy Richter, sisters-in-law Lena, Gladys and Olga Singbeil and brothers-in-law Adam Reich, Mike Sawchuk, Arvin and Clarence Neiser and sister-in-law Violet Neiser.
As a young boy, Leonard grew up with many others besides his sisters and brothers. His parents had the open door policy and helped many children find solace with them. As a young man, when sister-in-law Lena died, Rosemarie and Ron came to live with them. Dad said many times that they seemed more like a sister and a brother than a niece or a nephew. He worked his early years on a farm, and then Western Peat Moss Plant and a few summers at the railway. As an adult, he worked for Ogilvie Flour Mill, Burns Meat Plant, in Dryden in the bush cutting wood, and for Albert Wolf and Eric’s Plastering. He then worked for many years in the winter in the bush in Pine Falls at Abitibi and the Highways Department in the summer. In 1968, he became a supervisor at Abitibi and which he continued until his retirement in 1994.
As our dad, he stood 10 feet tall, he could fix anything and we believed he could climb any mountain to rescue us. He loved to play practical jokes on us. He was so much fun. He was a highly respected Christian man; anyone who would see us and talked about our dad to us, had wonderful things to say. In his retirement, he liked to keep busy, so he would keep his yard so very nice and his garden always produced lots of yield to share with all of us. He loved to watch things grow – vegetables, flowers, but mostly his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There will be a viewing on Friday, August 13 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour. Funeral service will held on Saturday, August 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Gertrude Avenue and 1st Street N. Beausejour with Pastor Bart Coleman officiating. Friends may view prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Suttorp, Aaron Lamb, Brad Watt, Matt Nightingale, Paul Baker and Garland Singbeil.
Thank you Dr. Zeiler, and the homecare care givers and nurses who came and gave dad the help he needed so he could stay home as long as he could. Thank you to the nurses and staff at Beausejour Hospital for being there, helping Dad and us through these last few days. Thank you Christine for taking care of Dad these last months. We the family, so appreciate it.

Hello, I noticed your father’s obituary and couldn’t help notice the potential family connection. Is there anyone in your family collecting family history? I would like to share information if possible. Thank you
