Oh the memories of Laurie. I knew her first as a room mate in Powerview of all places in the 70s-when it was tough to find an apartment in Pine Falls. Over the years, we made a few trips across the border to shop, a trip to Ontario around Christmas to visit her Aunt Vera, & winter trips to Mexico/Hawaii. When we went to Toronto to see Vera, she rented a car & was not afraid of driving on the 401! On that trip, we visited beautiful homes in Oakville to view Christmas decorations. We went to a restaurant & when we were leaving my winter coat was missing. It took us a few minutes to realize Laurie was carrying my green coat & her coat was still on the coat rack. Laurie always had interesting stories to tell about her dogs, a few cats, & the golf course. Condolences to the Bush Family

David and Clarence, my deepest condolences. Laurie was such a constant presence in my childhood. She was my cousin, my friend, someone who got me out of and into a good many ill-advised situations. I have been sharing these ‘Laurie stories’ for over 55 years and they will probably be some of the last things I remember. Safe home, Laurie.
Clarence
How great to hear from you. Thank you for your kind words. If you are ever out here please drop in.

Clarence and David, my thoughts are with you. I find comfort in the following quote. I hope you will also. ‘Grieving is hard work . . . but . . . I guess we’re built to do it. We come equipped with hearts to break, and eyes to cry with. We have brains to hold the memories and stories, and voices to tell them with. We have the capacity to love and heal.’

We were so sorry to hear of Laurie’s passing. We have fond memories of Laurie from Oakbank teaching days. She was appreciated for her hard work, caring ways and practicaljokes she liked to be part of.

We were very saddened to hear about Laurie’s passing. It certainly took us by surprise. During our many years working together at Oak Bank Elementary, we appreciated her friendship. She was a dedicated teacher and very kind to everyone. Our friendship lead to helping Laurie and family at the Golf Course on Mens’ Night. We worked hard but our reward at the end of the evening was a sit-down visit, a snack, and a beverage of choice. We always enjoyed our chats with other Bush family members as well. Our sincere condolences to all of you. May cherished memories keep her close in your hearts. She will be missed. May you rest in peace, dear Laurie. Donna and Dennis

I was so very sad to hear that Laurie had passed away. I also worked with her at Oakbank Elementary and found her to be so caring, gentle, and quiet in her ways but she also had a phenomenal sense of humour. I also really enjoyed working with her because of her sincere interest in seeing students succeed. We lost touch as our paths parted but I often thought of her and her wonderful character. We also enjoyed events at the golf course and she was wonderful hostess.
My sympathy to the family.

I can see her “Bush smile” as I write how sorry I am to read this sad news. Years ago we spent a summer as part of a group of early morning swimmers! I was pregnant and told Laurie how I kept craving (and buying) one of the delicious sandwich’s at the golf course restaurant. Well wouldn’t you know it… the very next day she handed me a container with the very sandwich inside! What a surprise, and a small example of the kindness she shared with us.
Thinking of Laurie with a smile.

Laurie was a teacher colleague of mine at OakBank Elementary. She was a great teacher, dedicated to her students. She was a generous, kind, talented person, with a smile and sense of humour that would pop up and surprise you. My thoughts are with her family. She has touched the lives of many children and colleagues and will be missed by many…
