September 2, 1941 – June 13, 2023
With his loving wife by his side, Chuck Einfeld passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the age of 81 years.
Chuck will be sadly missed by his wife Pauline; his sons Bradley (Janice) and Sheldon; son-in-law Ken; grandchildren Jared (Roksana), Blake (Anna), Bailey (Leon) and Riley; great grandchildren Ernest and Otto; brother Marinus; niece Nikki; as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Simon & Jean Einfeld and his daughter Crystal.
Chuck was born in Winnipeg & grew up in Elmwood. His summers were spent at the seasonal family run-bakery (Einfeld’s Bakery) in Victoria Beach, which was taken over by his parents (Simon & Jean Einfeld) from Jean’s parents (Gus & Lillian Cox). He worked at the family bakery each summer learning the trade from his father Simon, & some of his uncles, who were also bakers. During the year of the flood, he attended the Victoria Beach school, which made his bond with the community even stronger.
With his love for music & many years of taking accordion lessons, then learning how to play the guitar, he became a member of the band “The Chord-U-Roys”. He played rhythm guitar as well as doing backup vocals. They were quite popular in the early 60’s & were even showcased on Winnipeg’s own “Teen Dance Party”.
Chuck was also a member of the Victoria Beach Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed curling at the local club in the weekly square draw & numerous bonspiels. Other hobbies included model airplanes, playing baseball with the “Victoria Beach All-Nighters” & snowmobiling. He also raced snowmobiles for a while (Polaris & later Rupp). Chuck always loved a good party! He loved to pick up his guitar & entertain, sometimes till the wee hours of the morning. This sometimes made it difficult to maintain his early morning bread-making duties!
Chuck took on various jobs in the off-season. By the time his parents had acquired a bakery on Portage Avenue (Woodies Goodies), where he also worked, he continued gaining life experience working at Furnaceman in Winnipeg for a brief period. He also worked as an electrician’s helper, as well as learning how to build houses in the northern communities, but always returned to Victoria Beach in the summer months. And eventually took over Einfeld’s bakery from his parents. He enjoyed running the family business and liked to whistle while he worked. Many of his young employees went on to continue in the Bakery industry as well.
As his children became proficient in the bakery, he was able to acquire a year-round bakery in Pine Falls. Having a few days off now in the summer meant he was able to enjoy one of his other passions-boating. He would often take the staff members and some of their families out for a boat ride. This is where he met the love of his life, Pauline. They hit it off immediately, and in a few short years they were married. This gave him a lifelong partner to work by his side. As his son Brad took over the bakery in Victoria Beach, they were able to concentrate on the year-round bakery in Pine Falls, delivering to neighbouring communities, including the airport, which let Einfeld’s Bakery products be shipped to northern fishing lodges.
Retiring in 2000, it was found out that the pair had a green thumb and started planting a huge garden. Having an acreage that large kept Chuck busy on his lawnmower, most of the summer. The grandkids always loved eating veggies out of the garden at Grandpa & Pauline’s. He always got a kick out of watching the grandkids scooting around the yard on mini quads & minibikes.
Chuck always maintained a good sense of humour which he passed down to all of his kids. He rarely argued… unless you didn’t agree with him! He was a sociable guy, always hospitable, and he like nothing more than when an old friend would stop by for a visit. He will be deeply missed by all his friends, family & the community.
Rest in peace, Chuck!
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Victoria Beach Sports Club.
Interment will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 11:30 a.m., on Annette Ave. in St. George’s, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Victoria Beach Sports Club.

Chuck was a loyal friend . That line about never arguing unless you disagreed with him, brought on a good laugh. Nothing more true. He & Pauline were most welcoming . I will miss my friend.

My most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Chuck Einfeld. From one of the most junior to one of the most senior of the cousins and definitely one of my favorites, I will miss you and always remember sneaking out as a child to escape the monsters under the bed of whatever aunt and uncle’s house we were at that day. Then beg my parents to let me stay up to watch you play the accordion and guitar.

Sending condolences from BC. Although my mother Lynne Maller(Einfeld -daughter of Len Einfeld) passed away in 2019, she shared many memories of her cousin Chucky & the Victoria Beach/Pine Falls bakeries. From the obituary, it is very clear how much he will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Chucks passing. Fond memories of parties in the bird house! As teens.
Walking back to the cottage wasn’t easy in the pitch black at midnight! So much fun. He was a good man. Condolences to Pauline and family.

Chuck was a forever friend. From very early years and accordians to high school and more music in R&R bands. Jamming at 626 Windsor Ave. was always an experience. The great years of the 50’s and 60’s were very memorable with cars and the music again! Chuck was the epitome of that era. And our visits to Victoria Beach bakery, mmm the smell of fresh baked bread, and the taste of fine pastries and cookies. Chuck certainly carried on the tradition of the baking family, and passed it on to Brad. And thanks to Pauline for always welcoming us to their home. Gonna’ miss him, and his emails and phone conversations.

Chuck was a huge part of my teen years including raising “my dog” for me and having me over as 2nd daughter when I just was hanging out with his kids. Hated the indoor bucket toilet but it was way better than freezing butt! Loved his musical skills always enjoying a jam night. Of course I was also one of the many teens that worked at Einfelds Bakery!
Thanks Chuck for all the Memories!
