In his home, while doing his favourite thing – napping, Gerald James Peluk peacefully passed away on May 25th, 2023 at the age of 83.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Ruth – they shared their love for each other for 61 beautiful years – his children Dennis (Laurie), Cindy (Roger), Scott (Kelly), grandchildren Trevor (Katrina), Shawn, Christopher, Teren, Dallon, Shaelyn & Shantal and his great-grandchildren Russell & Annastyn.
He will also be remembered by his brother Ken (Mary), brother-in-law Harvey (Nancy) & Sister-in-law Loraine (Bob), many nieces, nephews & extended family. He was predeceased by his parents Mike & Olga, his father and mother-in-law Harry & Helen and his brother-in-law Jack.
Jerry was born in Winnipeg on August 30th, 1939. He lived in Ladywood all his life. In his younger years, he ventured north during the winter months to Thompson, Manitoba, to work on constructing the nickel mine, but his true passion was farming. He started farming with his dad and brother and after getting married in 1961, him and Ruth ventured out to start farming on their own. He continued farming with his son Dennis and farmed right up until his last day. He never wanted to “retire” and as he grew older he preferred to say he was just “slowing down”.
Dad and mom loved to travel and took a lot of road trips, even though Dad hated to drive. They took trips with their kids to Disneyland, Alaska & British Columbia and journeyed on their own to many parts of Canada, the US, Mexico, Dominican Republic and even took the train up to Churchill, Manitoba.
Dad’s family meant everything to him and he had a very special relationship with each one of them. His greatest joys though were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grandpa/Gigi was a huge part of all their lives and travelled near and far to watch them play hockey, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, dance and gymnastics. He ate at every rink, looking to find the best tasting hotdog.
It was always a good time when Dad was around. Dad loved to joke and shoot the shit. He made friends everywhere he went, and with people of all ages. No matter where he was in the world, he ALWAYS seemed to find a mutual connection to everyone he talked to, especially those he met sitting on the Walmart bench when waiting for mom.
Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hastir and the staff at the Beausejour Hospital Diagnostics Department for taking care of Dad. We know he brought a little laughter to their day with every visit he made.
We would also like to thank Rhonda at Sobering Funeral Chapel for her care and compassion while guiding us through this difficult time.
As per Dad’s wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service. A private Celebration of Life was held in his honour.
Dad’s favourite events of the summer were attending farm auction sales and Pioneer Days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pioneer Village Museum, Box 310, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0

I always stood in quiet amazement of Uncle Gerry. And what amazed me was how this guy could know so much about so many things.
From driving all that farm equipment to fixing all that farm equipment. From seeding the fields to harvesting the fields and everything in between.
Work Work Work! And then at any given moment laugh laugh laugh and Joke joke joke.
I mean how many people in your life encouraged you to ride a pig in a pen full of muck then filled the air with laughter after you undoubtedly fell in.
He was and always will be a man that holds a very special place in my memories and the stories that I share and pass on to my son.
The very definition of a true hard working Canadian Prairie farmer. And so much more.
And so I would say well done Uncle Gerry! The hard days are done. 2 thumbs up or at at least one right!
So from my little family out here on the East coast we send Lots of love To Auntie Ruth and the family. Dennis ,Cindy and Scott. I wish I could be there.
He will remain vibrantly alive in great memories and stories for years to come.
A wuh!
