August 18, 1939 ~ April 28, 2023
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved brother Lyle Velie, on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Sunnywood Manor in Pine Falls, MB, at the age of 83.
Lyle was predeceased by his parents Jean and Stephen and niece Robin. Lyle is survived by brothers Harold (Delores) and Stephen (Susan); nephew Michael (Cynthia); niece Jocelyn and her children Brittney and Matthew; great nephew Alexander and numerous cousins.
Lyle was born and raised in Pine Falls and worked at the local paper mill. He was an active long- time member of the Pine Falls Legion where he volunteered for many years. Lyle really enjoyed sports, especially hockey. He was a big Maple Leafs fan and in his earlier years he managed the Pine Falls Paper Kings hockey team.
Lyle loved going to the cottage at Flett’s Point on the Winnipeg River. This is where many good times with family and friends were held. One of Lyle’s favorite past times was listening to music, especially jazz. Lyle also enjoyed photography which was evident in the numerous photos he took on his trips across Canada, to Cuba, Africia, Fiji, Barbados, Tahitii and the Bahamas. One of Lyle’s endearing traits was his infectious laugh that will be missed by many.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunnywood Manor for their care and compassion given to Lyle and long time friend Kelly Sharpe.
As per Lyle’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
If you so wish, donations may be made in Lyle’s memory to Pine Falls Legion, Sunnywood Manor Personal Care Home, CNIB, or Parkinson Society Manitoba.

My wife Lori and I are very sorry to hear of Lyle’s passing. Lyle really was a great guy!
We met Lyle many years ago in Barbados at the Rostrevor in the St. Lawrence Gap. This was back in the years when Lyle would spend November each year in Barbados. We spent a lot of time together and got along really well. We even did a couple of double dates at B4 Blues. Even though Lyle was a confirmed bachelor, he always seemed to have a lady friend.
Lyle’s smile and his laugh really were infectious. Lori and I loved going with Lyle to the Salt Ash, sitting by the Sea, Lyle with his usual rum and coke and us with our Banks beer. Lyle knew a lot of people there and seemed to be great friends with the bartenders, Eddie and Cuzzie. Then there was a bus trip to the Atlantis Hotel in Bathsheba, lunches at local bars, and lots of fun and kidding around.
It used to be fun to tease Lyle about having a house in Pine Falls and a cottage in Pine Falls. Yes, but as Lyle would point out “on the river”.
A couple of times, Lyle called Lori on her birthday to wish her the best. He said he always remembered the date as it was the same as his brother’s birthday (July 31st).
We lost touch over the years but, strangely, last Friday afternoon I googled “lyle velie, pine falls” and his abbreviated obituary popped up. He had just passed away earlier that morning!
Lori and I have many great memories of our time with Lyle.
Rest in peace, old friend.

With a heavy heart I share my condolences with Lyle’s family. Lyle and I work in the Control department in the Paper mill, together for many years. He was wonderful, knowledgeable, intelligent and had great stories from his travels. It was a pleasure to have known him and work with him. Rest in peace Lyle.

Deepest sympathies to Hardy, Stevie and families from your LdB cousin. Time passes way to fast losing touch with such good relatives, but know our hearts are with you during this time.

Deepest condolences to the family. One of my first boat rides was in Lyle’s boat in 1963 in Powerview on the Winnipeg River. The logs were being driven/moved down the river held back from shore by a huge log boom. It was so exciting to see. Last time we saw him was at the Pine Falls Legion having a great time with his friends. Lost touch didn’t realize his health issues. Now he is no longer suffering. God Bless.
