March 7, 1942 ~ April 15, 2023
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Irene Rerick on April 15, 2023 after an ongoing battle with pneumonia.
She will be missed by husband of 62 years, Clifford; daughter Debbie (Guy); son Glen (Rosanne); grandchildren Alexis (Jeremy), Matthew and Andrew; brothers Garry (Lynne), Jim (Trudy), Al (Dawn), Wayne (Carla), Bob, Bruce (Janice), brother-in-law Raymond McQuarrie and many other relatives, special friends Gerry, Irma, Peter, Diane, Billy, Ed, Iona, and many more friends.
Irene was predeceased by parents Eva and George Steiner; infant brother Gerald; infant sister Sharon; sisters Laura (Petcee) and Arlene; and in-laws George and Lena Rerick.
Grandma had a love for her grandchildren and in her later years being a grandma to a very special puppy. Irene loved being a snowbird with her husband Clifford in Arizona for many years spending time with friends. She enjoyed watching and following many forms of motorsport racing and followed the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars – touring across the US finding all the dirt tracks they could watch. Irene was also an active member of the community with being the coordinator of the craft show in town for many years and being a Sunday School teacher.
Irene will leave a lasting memory of the most delicious cake and candy business in the Beausejour and surrounding areas – Irene’s Cake and Candy. She made most of the wedding cakes for her family, and her last hurrah with cakes was granddaughter Alexis’ one birthday request for Grandma’s icing for her birthday. They made cupcakes with her famous icing on December 29, 2022.
We would like to thank all the homecare workers that helped throughout the years, all the doctors, nurses, ambulance workers, the handivan workers and Stars that have touched her life.
Donations in Irene’s name may be made to Winnipeg Humane Society, Stars or Zion Lutheran Church, Beausejour.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East in Beausejour.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
What is there to say about Irene? I have known her for almost my entire life. She was a second Mom to me. When Glen and I became friends, I would often come to town. The novelty of life in town, cable TV and a short walk to everything on Park St was almost too much for a kid from the farm. Irene welcomed me in with open arms. I soon discovered how awesome two suppers could be, one at home and one courtesy of the Rerick’s. I might never get my tab paid up. Whether it was trips out to Seven Sisters, the sprint car track near Winnipeg or endless hockey trips, I always felt part of the family.
My whole family was treated this way. Mom and Dad became fast friends with Irene and Cliff. Likely for over 50 years now. My children came to learn of the wonders of the cake shop in the basement of the little house on 5th St.
You will be greatly missed Irene, but never forgotten. I am sure you are watching us and having a good belly laugh at some of the things we do.

I’m am so sorry to hear of Irene’s passing. Whenever I would see her she always had a welcoming “hello” and the brightest smile. During the years, I consumed many birthday cakes which she had made for my boys. Since She and Cliff became neighbours of my moms at the condo, I would walk over every year with a bag of rhubarb. She never refused and said “I will give to Debbie, she will use them and make me muffins”. . Debbie, I will continue to do that. My deepest condolences to you all. My mom and I will miss her
