It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Ernest Kolton on Friday June 3, 2022 at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour MB at the age of 79.
Ernest is survived by his daughter Kim, grandsons Ryan and Karl, brothers Harry (Carol), Leonard, Kenneth, Dennis (Marilyn), sisters Ethel, Judy and Diane, sister in- law Donni and numerous nieces and nephews. Ernest was predeceased by father Samuel, mother Annie, sisters Adeline and Betty, brother Randy, nieces Heather and Sherri, brothers-in law Mark, Albert and George, and Kim’s mother Sally.
Ernie was born and raised on the family farm in Dencross MB Aug. 3, 1942.Ernie attended Mars and Brokenhead Schools. Ernie would then move to Winnipeg where he would work for an auto wrecker and then a sheet metal company where he had the accident that changed his life forever.
Ernie met Sally at the Blue Boy restaurant and would marry Oct 20, 1962 and welcomed their daughter Kim into their hearts. Together they moved to Portage La Prairie where Ernie then worked for Delta Motors for many years and made many lifelong friends. They decided to move back to Winnipeg and he worked at Gambles for a time, then to MTS as a diesel mechanic. In 1981 Ernie then moved next to the family farm on the 2 acres of the Mars school site. In 1983 Ernie then had to retire from MTS and worked with his brothers on the family farm which was his true passion.
One of Ernie’s proudest moment was when he became a grandfather to Ryan and Karl. He attended all the Christmas concerts, band concerts, sports games and graduations.
Throughout all the years the door was always open to anyone to stop for coffee or something stronger and many, many did. He most enjoyed all the good friends, conversations, laughter and politics. Ernie was well known for his generosity and spent much of his time cutting grass, clearing snow, fixing vehicles of neighbours, friends and family. He loved nothing better than being outside on his tractor.
Kim, Ryan and Karl would like to give Special Thanks to the Greenwald Colony for all the years of their good company, help and generosity; all the Home Care Nurses and aids, Beausejour Hospital and East Gate staff; Uncle Harry for all the hours with phone calls to dad; to Kenny, Colin and Blaine for all the grass cutting and Lyle for the snow removal this winter; to Adrian for his many visits to East Gate and to all the friends and neighbours who stopped to visit Ernie. Most of all our heartfelt and appreciation to dad’s brother Len for all the visits through covid restrictions; to Len, Ken and Diane for all the hours spent when we brought dad home from the hospital and the everyday visits at East Gate. Words can never express from Dad, Ryan, Karl and myself for all the caring moments you spent with dad.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 8 at 3:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, with interment in Mars Hill Cemetery. I will always remember Ernie as a happy, friendly, gentle man, who had the ability to make everyone feel like part of the family. Well my friend I guess I missed out on giving you your last laugh, it will have to wait till I get up there with you, hopefully it will make you laugh your ass off. Why do we always think there is enough time? Your friendship is and will always be one of my greatest joys. So many happy and sad memories to remember, you know the ones brought us happiness and the ones that created great sadness, but all those memories are what brought us closer as friends. The way you could always open your heart and home to strangers and make new friends out of them was a gift that is so rare, your smile and generosity will be so very much missed.
To all the family of Ernie Kolton, I send my deepest condolences.
To Kim my favourite ex-sister in-law: Love You Miss You Mean It.

Hi Kim, Ryan, and Karl. Very sad to hear about Ernie’s passing. Though it has been many years and only of hand full times meeting the gentleman, he was always kind and greeted me with a hand shake that said we are connected as family. From mine to yours, our deepest sympathies.
Kim, I asked Karl last night to give you a big hug from me, I know he will. You will always be our one of our favorite cousin-in-laws.
Love and condolences,
