1946 ~ 2022
Teresa Wielgosh passed away suddenly on April 1, 2022.
She was pre-deceased by her father Stephen and mother Ethel. She leaves behind her husband Allen of 53 years who she affectionately called Pedro, sons Jody (Lisa) and Chris (Cara), and grandchildren Brooke, Carter, Bethany and Cody.
In the spring of 2015, Terry was diagnosed with a brain tumor (benign). On June 9, 2015, she underwent successful brain surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible but due to its location, it could not be totally removed. On September 12, 2017, the first of two Gamma Knife radiosurgeries were performed and the tumor was successfully reduced each time. This past year she underwent multiple radiation treatments that targeted the tumor but it was clear to her that it was still growing. On January 6 an MRI was performed but it was inconclusive due to the swelling. A subsequent MRI was performed on March 15 to reveal the extent of the growth and develop a treatment plan. She was scheduled to meet with her doctor on April 8.
Terry was born, raised and proud to be from Beausejour. As a child, she grew up in one of the local grocery stores: Rumak Brothers. The Rumak family was a mainstay in the business community in Beausejour for many years. After high school graduation, she enrolled in Teacher’s College (she wanted to be a nurse, but couldn’t stand the sight of blood) and was immediately hired to her first teaching position in the Winnipeg School Division after completing her degree. Her father (who nicknamed her Spider) passed away suddenly when she was 21, so she came back to help with the family store in the evenings and on weekends while still teaching full time.
She was a beloved and respected educator throughout her 30 plus year career at the Beausejour Elementary School/EBEYS as a classroom teacher and then resource teacher. She firmly believed that all students could learn and be successful members of our community. She cared deeply for all her students and poured her heart and soul into whatever they needed to feel safe and supported. Her knowledge and passion for teaching never waned and the positive impacts she made on both students and staff is a legacy that continues on. Although she retired from teaching in 2001, she continued to make a difference in the lives of so many students by volunteering regularly at EBEYS and Gillis in various classrooms, as well on field trips for her grandchildren. Even though she never wanted to be on the sub list because she didn’t want to take work away from someone, she was always available as an ‘emergency sub’ when the then Principal of Gillis School came calling.
Terry devoted time and energy to her community throughout the years with volunteer efforts that included: Beausejour Hospital Board, Brokenhead River Community Foundation, canvassing for Cancer Care, Manitoba Games (Beausejour host), Junior Curling and Golf programs, St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and the Manitoba Scotties (Beausejour Host), among others.
Her family was her ‘everything’ and there was never any doubt that she was the Matriarch of the Wielgosh family. She was always there to help solve any problems or just be a sounding board for anyone that needed to talk. She had a tremendous ability to just listen without passing any judgement but would certainly put her foot down when it was necessary. As a young Mom, she drove her boys everywhere for their sports and summers were spent at ‘the pit’ and Joan’s cabin in the Whiteshell. She definitely loved the water and ensured her boys did as well. From minor hockey to Junior A and beyond, Terry travelled far and wide to watch her boys play hockey and would often re-schedule family gatherings to ensure they didn’t conflict with any sports schedule. She continued to be ‘available’ to drive her boys home from wherever and whenever they needed a ride. Always with a smile and laughter, even in her pajamas. Once in a while, she was even convinced to come in for a drink.
Her grandchildren called her “Amie” which she absolutely loved. Each one of them had the luxury of spending countless hours with her during their early childhoods whether it was because they were sick or just needed a place to be. They never really had babysitters because they had their “Amie”. As they grew up and got part-time jobs; delivering lunch or supper for them on their short breaks from CO-OP or having a hot meal ready for them upon arrival at the house became standard operating procedure. And she loved every minute of it. While she often pulled the ‘Grandmother’s Rights’ card out when she was questioned about all the things she bought and did for them, she still managed to maintain a masterful balance between being a Grandma and a teacher, and never let a teachable moment slip by.
The family would like to thank everyone for their tremendous support and kind messages throughout this difficult time.
The funeral is scheduled for 10:30 am, Friday, April 8 at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour.

Teresa was a “Favourite” cousin! We always kept in touch and we sparred with each other for decades. Her door was always open as was her heart. Once when her mom was looking after me, we were playing baseball in Hayes’s yard across the street and she hit me with a bat! I’ve never been the same since. “Annie” as I called her was the best and it took a lot of courage for me to always forgive her for voting Liberal! Lol! I’ll miss her voice, smile and hearty laugh. I’ll also miss her gourmet cooking.
My heart felt sympathies to Al, Jody, Chris and families. Rest in Peace Annie, we all loved you and will miss you!
Eleanor and Eugene
Sincere condolences to AL and family.
Terry was such a positive beautiful person.
Even when we went to high school she always had such a way about her that made you want to be around her.
She laughed and said her walks around town always took so much longer because there were so many people to stop and talk to on the paths.
Her positive smiling face will be so missed. So sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. Growing up Terry was always larger than life to me. She was friendly and funny and always made me feel special. As my dad’s favorite cousin, we had the chance to visit often and I have fond memories of ski trips to Lake Louise, family dinners and fun. These are some of the best memories of my childhood. Terry was a devoted niece and selfless friend to my Gran and I so appreciate everything she did for her especially during her last few years. Rest in peace Terry, you will be missed.

She was consistently so warm and friendly. Her beautiful smile spoke volumes. I enjoyed many conversations with Terry at the Co-op, on the Rail Trail and many places around town. She always made time for a visit. So much appreciated.
My deepest sympathy to her family and friends at this very sad and difficult time. May all the memories of her hold a special place in your hearts. Such a lovely lady.

I am glad I had the opportunity to talk to her the last couple years. So glad she helped organize the B.C.I. reunion — such memories. MY SYMPATHY to all who loved her.

Thinking of The Wielgosh Family at Terry’s passing.
It has been our pleasure of being connected to Terry and Al…since way back when Chris and Cara discovered each other a high school graduation event.
We came to know Terry as the General Manager of the “The Wielgosh Family Team”. And what a wonderful Team it is. Although we were not aware of there being a penalty box…a stern look could mean a major.
As with every great manager she took care of many family details…including but not limited to the cooking, the baking, and the candle stick making for her best buddy Al “Pedro”, their children, then grandchildren. An invitation to dine at the “TW Bistro of Beausejour” was always a delight.
It too has been our pleasure to have shared with her a wedding, grandkids, school events, more kids’ events, sports games, family moves, graduations, a 50th Wedding Anniversary. We can toss in a few golf games…where graciously our score was never kept (and we always thought the highest score wins in any sports game) always with good intentions to play a few more. And that “Beausejour Ladies Weekend in New York City” is still a top life highlight in our home.
She has left us with the gifts of her strong foundations for life and living. For inspiring us with good intentions…good influences…and in making good people. Human nature will have a way of reminding us of these things, of this Lady…whether digging out of sand trap; or sipping a glass of Guinness.
May you rest easy Terry…while watching and waiting from above.

It’s with a heavy heart I try to express how much love and appreciation we as a family had for Aunty Terry.
Aunty Terry was the type of person everyone should strive to be in their life. Quick with a smile or laugh. Kind, considerate and generous with her time. She was a natural teacher and spent her life making the community a better place, one student, or one person, at a time. She was the first person to drop by for a chat, usually with a treat or flowers in hand. She was a steadfast friend to mum and dad throughout their marriage and a rock for mum to lean on after dad died. She was simply one of a kind.
Words will never convey how much we as a family will miss her.
I will forever think of Aunty Terry when, I bite into the perfect marshmallow square, or indulge in a really nice glass of red wine.

My deepest sympathies to Terry’s family and friends…especially her husband, her children and their families. I had the priviledge of knowing Terry growing up going to school with Chris and later working with her at BEYS. She was a true mentor and has always inspired me in my career teaching children. She had a patience and a presence like few others. She led by example and inspired simply by being herself. She truly cared about each and every student she taught or had contact with. She definitely believed in the ability for each student to achieve great things and she helped them believe in themselves. Her influence in this world reached far more places than she will ever have known. Thank you for sharing her with us all for so many years. May she rest in peace on a life well lived and may the memories you have of her bring you comfort in the days ahead. Her legacy will live on forever!

My deepest condolences, Al, to you and your family. I first met you and Terry about 44 years ago when I visited Val and Clarence on weekends. I remember Friday nights, sitting around your kitchen table playing Trivial Pursuit or other games, enjoying the delicious food Terry prepared, barbeques with your friends in the backyard, golf tournaments, and so many other wonderful occasions spent in your and Terry’s company. I will always be thankful for the help she gave me when I was struggling to write my first university English paper, and how she never laughed at or criticized my horrible golf game. She was a gracious hostess, a warm, welcoming, intelligent, thoughtful, and caring person whose big laughter and smile could light up a room. I am so grateful to have had the chance to see her last summer, however briefly, and blessed to have known her. I will miss her. My heart goes out to you and your family, Al, and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Sending love and hugs…

A classmate and a long ago forever friend. Teresa had a “Spark” to her that was always there. An infectious and unforgettable human being. Will be forever missed…
Dale Dreffs
I grew up just a few doors down from Theresa on Gertrude Avenue. Our mothers, Ethel and Alice, were good friends. I remember shopping at Rumak’s store, my mom buying Steve’s special hot mustard and Steve affectionately talking about “Spider”. When I visited the Rumak home with my mom as a child, Ethel would serve me cantaloupe with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a very exotic dish back in the 1960’s. Theresa was off to university while I was still in elementary school, but I sure wish I would have reconnected and shared my warm memories of her family with her. It is not at all surprising to read the tributes to her. She was special. My condolences to her family.

I just saw your mom Terry’s obituary and I’m in shock. Terry was the best mentor I could ever have asked for as I began my career as an EA at EBEYs. Even earlier than that when my oldest daughter Heather was in grade 1 and struggling, Terry was there to help her learn to read.
I know from our many conversations how proud she was of her boys and her grandchildren.
I am so sorry for you loss of a mother and grandmother and friend to so many.
I truly thought the world of her. So sad.
Linda Gmiterek
I am so sorry to find out that Theresa passed. She touched so many lives in a positive way. Mouse thought Theresa was a great person and I’m sure they had many laughs together in their younger years. My daughters also had the utmost respect for Theresa when they were in school. When she said hello to me her smile was so big and comforting. I hope Al and family you can find peace. RIP Theresa
