1963 ~ 2020
It is with heavy broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Ken Matchizen, 56 of Thalberg, Manitoba on Thursday, May 21, 2020.
Ken leaves to cherish his memory, his best friend and wife, Betty (nee Hryciuk), sons Kevin (Meagan) and Blair, and grandson Nathan. Also mourning are mother Clara, sister Karen (Orest), sisters-in-law Cheryl (Barry), Marianne (Tim), Patti (John), and nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his father Ben, in-laws Alice and Murray Hryciuk of Rossburn, MB.
Ken was born on September 15, 1963. Working alongside with his father, Ben, at the garage or on the farm, it was apparent early on that he had an aptitude for both professions. He married his love and best friend, Betty and together they worked as a team in the shop and on the farm, along with their sons.
Ken loved farming, was a skilled mechanic and a great problem solver. It made Ken proud to see his sons grow up and establish such strong work ethics to carry on his legacy. He had many interests and talents, from carpentry to outdoor cooking and barbering. He made sure to take time to enjoy other things in life such as camping, fishing, traveling, daily crop tours and snowmobiling. Ken cherished the time he spent with family and friends, but his overwhelming joy in this last year was his little grandson Nathan.
Ken will be remembered by many friends and neighbors for his generous and helpful nature.
If friends and family desire, a memorial fund is being set up in Ken’s memory. Donations may be forwarded to the Brokenhead River Community Foundation, Box 2225, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0.
Due to the current pandemic and public health orders, a private family graveside service will be held.
