It is with extreme sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Garry Greschuk on January 11, 2020 at the age of 62. He passed peacefully with family by his side.
Garry will be sadly missed by his son Steven Greschuk (Chelsea), daughter Shelby (Kyle) Donahue and grandson Connor. He is survived by his siblings Connie Johnston, Dianne Thompson, Bill (Brenda) Greschuk, Cheryl (Dave) Lisoway, Kim Greschuk (Earl) and Heather Kalauz as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Betty Greschuk, brothers-in-law Bruce Johnston and Tom Thompson and nephew, Joseph Greschuk-Schnellert.
Dad was born on June 9, 1957 in Beausejour, which is where he spent his whole life. He started working as an Autobody Mechanic/Painter at Gretsinger Garage – a career that spanned over 40 years. Dad’s passion was his job and he put pride into every vehicle he ever worked on. Dad loved his time spent with his friends enjoying a drink or two and catching up.
In his younger years, dad enjoyed playing baseball, hunting and snowmobiling. Dad always had a story to tell about his good old days and he lived life with no regrets.
Dad’s greatest love was his children whom he was so very proud of, and if you knew him, he would make sure to let you know. He was the proudest grandpa of his grandson Connor and his greatest joy came from visits with him. Dad was excitedly awaiting the arrival of another grandchild in a few months. There wasn’t a more enjoyable time for dad than sitting outside with his family telling stories. We could always count on dad to be driving by to check up on us. We know he will continue to watch over us.
Garry was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, but he never let it affect his way of life. It may have won, but he was never beaten.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Garry’s memory to Muscular Dystrophy Canada, 40 Eglinton Ave East, Unit 500, Toronto, ON M4P 3A2.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave, Beausejour, MB with viewing one hour prior to the service. Cremation and a family interment will be at a later date.

When running errands in Beausejour, I was sure to bump into him at the Post Office or the bank and he was always ready to catch up with a quick conversation before continuing on with his day. Growing up with Garry, life was always full of adventures. This particular story I call the “Raging Bull”. In those days, kids spent every waking hour outside during the summer holidays. On this day, the two of us venture into the back pasture probably looking for trouble. And trouble found us in the shape of our bull. He chased us and we jumped into the back of a grain wagon. The bull was tossing that wagon with all his might. Garry and I hung on for dear life. Probably yelling at the top of our lungs. Then all of a sudden, our brother Bill starts my dad’s truck and the the bull goes charging towards the truck. Garry and I jump out of the wagon and run like the wind to safety. My hope is that my brother is now free to run like the wind and off to enjoy new adventures.

I always enjoyed working with Garry at the Autobody Shop. He was witty with a great sense of humour. We had many good times! Garry had common sense and a good way of dealing with people too. He could be counted on for advice or words of wisdom. I will really miss him. He was a great guy!

Shelby, Steven, Aunties Connie, Cheryl, Kimmy and Heather, Uncle Bill and Aunty Rina,
Uncle Garry was an amazing Uncle to me. I remember curling up on the couch with the ‘kids’ on a Sunday afternoon (usually sitting on his or Uncle Bill’s back as they were laying in the couch), at Grandma and Grandpa’s watching wrestling and cheering on Hulk Hogan. I fondly recall going out on the power toboggans (as they called them back then) and getting stuck in a field. I can’t remember how we were rescued, but my sister Terri and I knew we were safe with him. Both he and Uncle Bill rebuilt my first car which I proudly took care of until finally the floor rusted through. I was very lucky to have these great memories to experience as a young child.
Losing a parent is very difficult and I wish Steven and Shelby peace and lots of support through this difficult time. I am sorry we were unable to make the service, but the Thompson’s will be thinking of everyone during this difficult time.
