1939 ~ 2019
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of our husband, father, grandpa/papa and brother, Wilfred Stanley Groinus on Sunday, October 13th, 2019 at the Beausejour Hospital, Beausejour, Manitoba.
Wilfred was born on April 6th, 1939 and just celebrated his 80th birthday. He was born and raised and lived his entire life just outside of Tyndall, MB.
Wilfred leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Sylvia, his son Trevor (Sheri), daughters Tracey (Wayne), and Cheryl and his 7 cherished grandchildren, Kyle (Danielle), Michael, Paige, Brayden, Jarvis, Vaughn and Cullen. He also leaves behind his brother Lawrence (Larry), cousins, aunts and uncles and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law who he was very close to. Wilfred was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Mary Groinus, parents-in-law, Michael and Christine Rochelle.
Wilfred was born and raised in the rural Municipality of Brokenhead just outside of Tyndall and attended Tyndall School. Wilf worked many jobs from a young age but retired from Speedy Autoglass at age 65. Dad met mom at the Beausejour Hotel in 1967 through Sylvia’s Uncle Joe and Aunty Elsie. Dad and mom married on April 4th, 1970.
Wilf was an incredibly dedicated, loyal and loving husband to Sylvia and spent 49 wonderful years together where they had 3 children and enjoyed their life together. They really did share a lot of wonderful memories that mom will hold forever dear to her. Dad loved her endlessly and always wanted her right by his side until the end. He was very proud of all 3 of his children and was and will always watch over them.
Dad will especially be remembered for spending as much time with his grandkids as he could. He followed Kyle, Michael, Brayden, Jarvis and Vaughn to countless hockey games to cheer them on. Dad held his first grandson, Kyle, in deep regard and is very proud of his Navy career, the man he is and the soon to be husband he will be. I know that Michael will cherish the hunting and fishing trips with grandpa. Brayden and Jarvis will never forget his incredible sense of humour and warm, caring smile. Vaughn and Cullen will cherish his caring heart and cuddles and Paige will always hold dear how much Grandpa worried and hovered over his only granddaughter.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nick Van Rensburg and all the nurses and nurses aides at the Beausejour Hospital who all took such great care of dad until the end. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Beausejour Hospital.
Wilf, Dad, Grandpa/Papa, we would not be the people we are today without your love and guidance. You have been everyone’s rock and strength and we are so grateful for everything you have given us. You will be forever missed and always in our hearts. We love you!
The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 18th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 1035 Park Ave. E., Beausejour, MB. Interment will be held for family at a later date.

While not connected by blood, we certainly consider you all family in the truest sense of the word and have so many fond memories of happy days we have all spent together. Our deepest sympathies to you Sylvia and all the family. We all know Wilf was a great guy and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. I would have very much liked to have come out for his service but I have another one in the city right after lunch , and due to the fact that I’m not well it’s a little bit too much for one day. My thoughts will be with you as we have travelled down this same path. Take care. Vera Horvath and family.
