1932 ~ 2015
On Wednesday, November 25 at the age of 83, Dad passed away peacefully at the Beausejour Hospital with his family at his side.
Dad was predeceased by his mother Martha; father Hermann, 2 brothers, and two infant sons Juegen and Helmut
Dad will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Bernadine of 62 years, his children Bernhard (Debbie), Elmer (Marilyn), Herman (Heather), Hannah, Selma, Linda (Kenny), Manfred (Tracy), Loretta (John), 15 grandchildren and their spouses, 27 great grandchildren, Dad’s 4 brothers, 4 sisters and their families in Germany.
Dad was born in Oldenburg, Germany on April 13, 1932. On December 19, 1952, Dad married the love of his life Bernadine Broek. In August of 1954, together with their first born son, they immigrated to Canada. Their family grew while living in several locations in Canada, and then finally settling in the Whitemouth area. They bought a dairy farm west of Whitemouth where they lived and worked until they sold in 1986.
They then moved to Beausejour, and Dad worked as custodian for the Beausejour Elementary School. Dad retired from the school in 1996, and continued with the cleaning duties of the local post office from 1990 until the spring of 2015.
Dad took a lot of pride in all the work that he did. He was devoted to his work, to his church, and most of all to his family. He was a loving, caring, and hardworking man. His family was the world to him. He would never miss a birthday or a special family event. His proudest moments were spending all his time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The most important thing in life to dad was a big happy family. This beautiful couple that started as 2 has grown to a wonderful family of 73.
We are very proud of this incredible man that has taught us the value of hard work, family, respect and compassion for each other. A quiet man but when he spoke he spoke straight from his heart, love you Dad.
Dad will forever be missed by all that had known him, and we will treasure his memory forever and always.
We would like to thank Dr. Cho, Dr. Kashefi, Dr. Partyka and all the wonderful Health Care staff at the Beausejour Hospital for all their care and compassion during this difficult time. Our sincerest thanks to all our family and friends for their kindness over the past few weeks, we will be forever grateful.
Funeral Services will be Monday, November 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour.
In lieu of flowers, if family and friend’s desire, donations may be made to Elim Baptist Church, Box 873, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0.

So sorry for the loss of a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. God has taken Walter in his arms and said “You need not to suffer no more. I am hear to make sure. You will now be able to watch over your family without the pain and reassure yourself they will be okay. You need not worry if they need your guidance as you have taught them well. You can now be their light if they find darkness on a path they choose. You will be in their thoughts with all the fond memories. They will carry your teachings for generations to come.” Rest in peace and may the arms of the angel that you become wrap around your family and they feel your love.

I am sorry to hear of Walter’s passing. He would often take the time to stop at my room in Beausejour Elementary for a quick visit at the end of the school day. I will miss seeing him at the post office and stopping for a chat on summer evenings.
Condolences to all the family.
