It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Emma Hrychany, on October 11 at the age of 101.
She was a loving mother to her son Wally and late daughter-in-law Grace; daughter Linda and son-in-law Ric; and cherished Grandma to Jaime, Paul, Holly and Leah Profeta; Jason, Ashton, Nixon and Lowen Henkel.
She was predeceased by her husband Nick in 2001, after 60 years of marriage; her daughter-in-law Grace; her parents Adam and Anna Kulikowski and all of her siblings – brothers Carl, John, August and George; sisters Lucy, Selma and Wilma.
Mom was a force of nature – a woman of strength and resilience.
We grew up watching her handle any obstacle that life threw at her.
She was born on the family farm in Poplar Bay, MB and was raised to be a hard worker. When dad came home from the army, they bought a homestead and built their own farm only a mile away. They had to clear the land with horses, kept milk cows, raised pigs, chickens, grain and hay. A year after dad passed away, Mom sold the farm and moved to Lac du Bonnet.
Mom’s happy place was always in the garden and she took meticulous care of her flowers and vegetables. She was proud and happy to share the bounty. There wasn’t a weed to be found anywhere and she was sure that the people in every car that went by were checking.
The family would like to thank everyone at Middlechurch Home for the compassionate care Mom received in her last days. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
It was all of us – her family and friends who helped her live a long and happy life.

Our condolences to the family. I remember taking my grandparents (Marion and Emily Nahaczewski) to visit Nick and Emma. We always toured the flowers and the garden and had the best visits.

I knew Emma through the years, she sat across from me at bingo and was always asking how I was and very pleasant. (God has taken another angel home and know his flower beds will get a definite check up.) May God rest your soul and give you the peace and rest you need. Her memories will lessen the sadness for all the family. God bless you all. Sincerely Sally Hirst

Dear Wally, Linda, Ric and family,
So sorry to hear about Auntie Emma passing. She was a remarkable woman. I have very fond memories of her when our family took summer trips to Lac du Bonnet/farm from Toronto when I was a child. I remember her kindness when my parents moved to Lac du Bonnet and when my dad, George her youngest brother passed away. She was an amazing cook and gardener. I’ll always remember her beautiful lilacs!
Sincere condolences, Sue Murray (Ottawa)

My condolences to the Hrychany family. So sad to see her go. She was in her late 90’s and still as spry as a youngster.
