(Grycki)
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our dearly loved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Helen Omichinski (Grycki) who passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 20, 2021, at the age of 93 years at the Beausejour Hospital.
Helen leaves to mourn her children; Janie (Jack) and Kevin (Merna); sisters Cecelia and Rose; nieces; nephews; as well as the lights of her life – her grandchildren Kayla and Kyle, who gave her the greatest joy in watching them grow up to be the fine adults they are today.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Omichinski in 1961; her parents, Mike and Mary Szajewski; brothers Joe and Casimir; and sister-in-law’s Benita and Mary Lou.
After turning seventeen, Helen moved to Winnipeg where she worked at Jacob and Crawley (sewing factory) for eight years. Mum met the love of her life John Omichinski in Ladywood, Manitoba. After a short courtship, they married, moved to Ladywood, worked on their farm and raised their two children, Janie and Kevin. After Johnny’s passing, she continued to farm and raise their two children for the next five years. When she remarried and moved to Garson, she worked at the farm there and for eight years was a short order cook at Pineridge Golf Course. After that she worked for Mr. Perogie in Tyndall, Manitoba. When her second husband passed, she moved to Beausejour in 1994 to be close to her immediate family.
Mum loved gardening, cooking, canning and baking, and became well known for her famous perogies. She also had a passion for needlepoint, sewing, knitting, and crocheting, especially for special causes. Her grandchildren were the recipients of her great talented wares. Mum was an avid card player and enjoyed playing Whist and Cribbage at the Beau Head Seniors Centre. She was always eager to attend bingo and especially enjoyed a win. Mum also had a special place in her heart for all the family pets.
A private graveside service was held at the St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery in Ladywood on June 24, 2021. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish to donate in Helen’s name, please consider CancerCare Manitoba.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff and Dr. Hannah at the Beausejour Hospital for helping her on her journey to heaven. Their care and compassion truly helped Mum’s family during this very sudden and difficult time. The family would also like to thank everyone who has reached out, sent flowers, telephone calls and condolences. Your thoughtfulness has meant everything to us.
